Ron Bargatze

Inducted 2018

Ron Bargatze's esteemed career and significant contributions earned him a well-deserved induction into the TSSAA Hall of Fame in 2018. His journey in sports is marked by diverse roles ranging from a high school basketball coach at Cocke Co. High School for one year to an influential college basketball coach at several prestigious institutions including Belmont, Tennessee Tech, Vanderbilt, Trevecca, and Austin Peay.

Bargatze's impact extended beyond coaching into sports broadcasting, where he established himself as a respected voice. For over three decades, he served as a Radio Color Analyst for Vanderbilt basketball, OVC basketball, and TSSAA football and basketball, showcasing his deep understanding and love for the game. His versatility as a broadcaster was further demonstrated as he also called the TSSAA State Golf and Bowling championships for the TSSAA NFHS Network, thereby enriching Tennessee's sports broadcasting landscape.

In addition to his broadcasting achievements, Bargatze made meaningful contributions to sports medicine. As Director of Sports Medicine at Baptist Hospital, he spearheaded a partnership with TSSAA, ensuring that trainers and sports medicine staff were available at all state championship events. This initiative underscored his commitment to athlete safety and well-being.

One of Bargatze's most enduring legacies is the sponsorship of a Student Summer Leadership program known as SASI, which evolved into the Right Team Student Services program. This initiative has become an integral part of TSSAA today, under the supervision of his cousin, Stephen Bargatze. Ron Bargatze’s multifaceted career and dedication to nurturing youth sports, particularly through his services to TSSAA, have left an indelible mark on Tennessee's athletic community. His 2018 TSSAA Hall of Fame induction is a fitting tribute to his vast contributions and lasting legacy in Tennessee sports.
