Bill Quarles, born on February 13, 1943, embarked on a distinguished career in the field of education and athletics, culminating in his 2018 induction into the TSSAA Hall of Fame. His journey began as an educator and administrator in Jefferson County, a role he dedicated over 40 years of his life to, underscoring his commitment to youth and sports.

In 1966, Quarles took the helm as the Athletic Director and Coach for basketball and tennis at Jefferson City High School, a position he held until 1975. His leadership extended beyond the courts and fields, as he assumed the roles of Assistant Principal and Athletic Director at Jefferson Co. High School from 1977 to 1992. Quarles’ influence on the athletic programs was profound during this period, steering them towards growth and higher standards of excellence.

His administrative capabilities were further recognized as he was appointed the Director of Federal Programs and Director of Human Resources for the Jefferson Co. School System from 1992 until 2005. Throughout his tenure, Quarles was a vital member of several educational associations, indicating his broad impact on the educational field beyond athletics alone.

Quarles' legacy is particularly noteworthy in his capacity as an Athletic Director, where his efforts were instrumental in developing multiple sports programs at Jefferson Co. High School. This contribution to TSSAA and to the larger community of student-athletes in Tennessee has left an indelible mark, ensuring a rich legacy that was fittingly honored with his induction into the TSSAA Hall of Fame in 2018.
