Edward M. Foster, born on October 28, 1944, embarked on a distinguished career as an administrator and coach in East Tennessee, devoting his life to education and athletics before being honored with a 2016 induction into the TSSAA Hall of Fame. His journey began at Mt. Juliet Junior High School where he initially took up coaching. Foster soon advanced to Ooltewah High School, furthering his impact as the head boys’ basketball coach and assistant football coach, laying the groundwork for a legacy of leadership in school sports.

By 1981, Foster transitioned into administration, serving as the Associate Principal of Ooltewah High School until 1986 when he assumed the role of Associate Principal and then Principal at East Ridge High School. His commitment to student-athletes and education was unwavering, leading him back to Ooltewah High School where he served as Principal for 11 years. During this period, he significantly shaped the landscape of Tennessee's secondary education and sports administration.

Foster's dedication to the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA) was notable. From 1995 to 2009, he served on the TSSAA Legislative Council, including stints as President for five years and Vice-President for six years. His contributions were not only administrative but also strategic, guiding the association through periods of growth and challenge.

In recognition of his exemplary leadership and service, Foster received the A.F. Bridges Award for Principal of the Year for the 1999-2000 school year. His legacy was further cemented when the gymnasium at Ooltewah High School was named the "Edward M. Foster Gymnasium" in his honor, a testament to his influence and dedication.

Beyond his TSSAA involvement, Foster’s career took another significant turn in 2009 when he became the Executive Director of the Tennessee Association of Secondary School Principals. Furthermore, his expertise and leadership were recognized nationally when he was appointed to the National Association of Secondary School Principals’ Advisory Committee.

Edward M. Foster's career achievements have earned him induction into several Halls of Fame including the Greater Chattanooga Sports Hall of Fame, East Ridge High School Hall of Fame, and Ooltewah High School Hall of Fame. His induction into the TSSAA Hall of Fame in 2016 culminated a career marked by relentless dedication to student-athletes, schools, and the broader educational community in Tennessee.
