Scott Brunette's career spans decades, beginning in 1973 and culminating in a prestigious induction into the TSSAA Hall of Fame in 2010. Starting as a teacher and coach at Napier Elementary School, Brunette dedicated 16 years to nurturing young athletes across multiple schools in Tennessee. His journey in education took him from Napier Elementary School (1973-1975) to McGavock Comprehensive High School (1975-1978), where he coached wrestling. He then moved to Whites Creek High School (1978-1980), taking roles in coaching wrestling and freshman football, before returning to McGavock Comprehensive High School (1980-1989) to continue his coaching career in wrestling and assistant football.

In 1989, Brunette transitioned into administrative roles, serving as an assistant principal and athletic principal at Stratford Comprehensive High School until 1992. His administrative prowess was further recognized when he took on the mantle of Athletic Director and Physical Education Coordinator for Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools, a position he held with distinction for 18 years until his retirement in 2010.

Throughout his tenure as Athletic Director, Brunette's contributions to TSSAA were significant and multifaceted. He served a nine-year term as an Ex-Officio member of the TSSAA Board of Control and Legislative Council, where his leadership and vision helped shape high school athletics in Tennessee. Under his direction, the number of student-athletes and their representation in regional and state level competitions increased, highlighting his commitment to athletic excellence. Brunette placed a strong emphasis on safety, sportsmanship, and integrity among coaches and players, fostering a culture of respect and fair play that raised the standard for sportsmanship across the state.

Brunette's impact on high school athletics and his service to TSSAA were recognized through multiple awards, including the Nashville City Civitan Club Civitan of the Year Award (2001) and the TSSAA A. F. Bridges Sportsmanship Award as School System Administrator of the Year (1999-2000, 2007-2008). His legacy is further enshrined in accolades such as the Metro Nashville Football Coaches Hall of Fame (2003) and the National Wrestling Hall of Fame (2009).
