Jackie Parton

Inducted 2022

Jackie Parton, born on May 6, 1953, built a commendable career in education and athletics that led to his induction into the TSSAA Hall of Fame in 2022. His journey began in 1979 at Gatlinburg-Pittman High School, where he served as a teacher and coach until 1985. Demonstrating leadership and a passion for student development, he ascended to the role of Assistant Principal at Gatlinburg-Pittman High School, a position he held for three years.

In 1988, Parton took on a significant leadership role as the Director of Sevier Co. Schools, a tenure that lasted an impressive 34 years, the longest in Tennessee's history. During this period, he was instrumental in making numerous enhancements to the schools in Sevier County. Notably, he was responsible for adding artificial turf to all five football fields in the district, directly impacting the quality of athletic programs.

Understanding the importance of structured athletic activities in student development, Parton was pivotal in ensuring that all schools in Sevier County became members of the TMSAA and TSSAA. This move not only expanded opportunities for student-athletes but also underscored his dedication to the development of high school sports in Tennessee.

Over the years, Parton's contributions were recognized through several awards, including the prestigious A. F. Bridges Award as “School System Administrator of the Year.” He also held the position of President of the Tennessee Organization of School Superintendents (TOSS) and was a member of the Tennessee School Safety Committee, demonstrating his commitment to the broader educational landscape beyond athletics.

Jackie Parton concluded his career with retirement at the end of the 2021-22 school year, leaving behind a legacy of dedication to education and high school sports in Tennessee. His service to TSSAA, in particular, highlighted his commitment to enhancing high school athletics across the state, making his induction into their Hall of Fame a fitting tribute to his contributions.
