Ellis Haguewood, born on August 16, 1945, embarked on an admirable career in education and leadership, dedicating nearly five decades of his life to Memphis University School (MUS). Throughout his tenure at MUS, he embraced various significant roles, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to excellence in education and student development. His journey began as a teacher, where he laid the foundational principles of learning and integrity. Subsequently, Haguewood expanded his influence by taking up the roles of Director of Student Activities, Dean of Students, Director of Summer School, and Upper School Principal. Each position allowed him to impact the academic and extracurricular environment at MUS positively.

In 1995, Ellis Haguewood ascended to the esteemed position of Headmaster at MUS, where he continued to guide the institution with visionary leadership and a deep sense of duty. His contributions extended beyond the school premises as he became actively involved in the TSSAA. Since the inception of the TSSAA Division II Committee in 1997, Haguewood played a pivotal role, even serving as its Chairman for a period. His dedication to enhancing high school athletics in Tennessee was further recognized when he joined the TSSAA Board of Control, representing the Tennessee Association of Independent Schools (TAIS).

Ellis Haguewood's service to TSSAA and his enduring commitment to fostering sportsmanship and excellence in high school athletics culminated in a significant honor in 2010 when he received a TSSAA Distinguished Service Award. This accolade was a testament to his tireless efforts and influential leadership within the TSSAA community.

In 2017, Ellis Haguewood's illustrious career and substantial contributions to education and high school athletics were celebrated as he was inducted into the TSSAA Hall of Fame. This induction not only appreciated his nearly half-century-long service at Memphis University School but also highlighted his extensive involvement and impact within the TSSAA, marking him as a paragon of excellence in administration and leadership in Tennessee's educational and athletic arenas.
