Mike and Karen Parker

Inducted 2013

Mike and Karen Parker were inducted into the TSSAA Hall of Fame in 2013, celebrated for their substantial contributions to high school athletics in Tennessee. Both born in the 1950s, with Mike on August 26, 1950, and Karen on August 23, 1957, they have dedicated a significant portion of their lives to promoting and enhancing the quality of high school sports.

Their journey in high school athletics notably includes nearly two decades of involvement with the TSSAA State Wrestling Tournaments. This commitment underscores their deep-rooted dedication to the development and recognition of young athletes in Tennessee. Mike, in particular, brought a wealth of experience from his early coaching career. He coached football, wrestling, and tennis at Red Bank and East Ridge high schools over a span of four years. His prowess as a wrestling coach was most prominently displayed when his East Ridge wrestling squad clinched the TSSAA State Championship in 1975, earning him the Coach of the Year accolade.

Mike's engagement with wrestling extended beyond coaching; he served as a wrestling official for 19 years before transitioning to the role of Assigning Officer for the Chattanooga Association. His multifaceted involvement with wrestling at various levels within TSSAA showcases his commitment to ensuring high standards and fairness in the sport.

In 1997, Mike and Karen began their significant role in administering the Individual and Dual State Wrestling Tournaments, marking a new chapter in their service to TSSAA. Karen's contribution has been equally impactful, taking charge of managing the brackets for the TSSAA Division II State Wrestling Tournaments since 2001. Their synergistic efforts have not only elevated the standard of wrestling tournaments in Tennessee but also highlighted their unparalleled commitment to high school sports within the TSSAA framework.

The Parkers' induction into the TSSAA Hall of Fame in 2013 is a testament to their lifelong dedication and service to high school athletics, contributing immensely to nurturing and developing young talent in Tennessee's sporting community.
