Sam's contribution to sports officiating was noteworthy. His officiating scope covered football, basketball, track and field, and softball, where he had the honor of officiating in the inaugural TSSAA Softball State Championship. Beyond the field, Sam's impact was felt through his administrative roles as a Supervisor and Assigning Officer of officials. He dedicated years to conducting state rules meetings in softball and represented the TSSAA on the NFHS Softball Rules Committee, influencing the sport at a national level.
