Robert L. Raikes, born on September 17, 1937, carved out an illustrious career in education and sports, largely within Rutherford County, Tennessee, before his induction into the TSSAA Hall of Fame in 2011. Perhaps most notably, Raikes served an impressive 37 years as the principal of Smyrna High School, indicating his deep-rooted dedication to the institution and its students.

His accomplishments and service were recognized on multiple fronts. Raikes received the A. F. Bridges Principal Award, highlighting his exceptional leadership. He was also a multi-term president of the Rutherford County Secondary Principals Association, further proof of his peers' respect for him.

Under Raikes' long tenure at Smyrna High School, the athletic programs thrived. The school earned a girls’ basketball championship, two football titles, and four boys’ bowling championships, testament to the robust sports culture he helped foster. Acknowledging his contributions, the football stadium at Smyrna High School was named in his honor.

Moreover, Raikes' service extended beyond Smyrna High School and Rutherford County. He was a member of TAASP/NASSP, served on the State Beta Club Council and took on responsibilities as a director for multiple district and region tournaments, further showcasing his commitment to fostering academic and athletic excellence.
