Wayne Reynolds

Inducted 2002

Wayne Reynolds, born on January 8, 1927, crafted a commendable legacy through his unwavering dedication to high school athletics in Tennessee, earning him an induction into the TSSAA Hall of Fame in 2002. Recognized primarily for his role as a contributor, Reynolds' career blossomed with his service as a football play-by-play announcer for Sequatchie County High School, marking an impressive tenure that began in 1954 and, by the time of his induction, had spanned nearly five decades without interruption.

In addition to his vocal talents behind the microphone, Reynolds played a pivotal role in the Sequatchie County High School Quarterback Club where he dedicated 30 years of service, holding positions as both Secretary and Treasurer. His leadership extended beyond administrative roles, underscored by his remarkable attendance record; Reynolds missed only one Sequatchie County High School football game over an expansive period of 47 years, illustrating his deep-rooted commitment to local high school sports.

Beyond his direct contributions to Sequatchie County High School, Reynolds' broader service to the community and TSSAA shines through his co-direction of athletic construction for the school's athletic facilities. This involvement further accentuated his passion, ensuring future generations had access to quality sports infrastructures, despite not having any children of his own participate in Sequatchie County sports programs.

His influence and dedication did not go unnoticed outside the realm of athletics either. Reynolds was a recipient of the Jefferson Award, a national community service honor recognizing "unsung" heroes, solidifying his status as a community stalwart. Further affirming his varied contributions, he was an East Tennessee State University Football Hall of Fame inductee in 1988, a Lions Club member for 57 years, and a recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award from Lions International in 1994.

Wayne Reynolds' 2002 TSSAA Hall of Fame induction encapsulates a career not just in sports announcing or school club leadership, but in fostering community spirit, constructing a lasting sports legacy, and embodying the values of service and dedication that the TSSAA celebrates.
