Ernest Rasar, born on August 6, 1921, embarked on a noteworthy career culminating in his 1994 induction into the TSSAA Hall of Fame as an Administrator. His journey began with a brief stint as a teacher and coach at Elizabethton High School from 1950 to 1951. Transitioning from teaching, Rasar served as the Carter County Schools Attendance Supervisor for eight fruitful years from 1951 to 1959. His administrative acumen became more apparent as he took on the role of principal, first at Central Elementary School from 1962 to 1965, and then at Happy Valley High School from 1965 to 1980, dedicating 18 years to shaping young minds in these capacities.
Following this, Rasar ascended to the position of Superintendent of Carter County Schools, a role he held from 1988 to 1993, showcasing his skills in educational leadership and management. Beyond his administrative capacities, Rasar deeply engaged with the TSSAA, amassing an impressive career as an official spanning four decades. He officiated both basketball and football games, further highlighting his versatility and commitment to high school sports. His significant contributions included serving as the President of the Football Officials’ Association, showcasing his leadership within the sports officiating community.
Rasar's remarkable contributions to high school athletics and the TSSAA were multifaceted. He was a valued member of the 1938 State Football Champion team from Elizabethton High School. His officiating pedigree includes presiding over the State Football Championship game in 1978 and participating in the 1961 TSSAA State Basketball Tournament. Additionally, his role in representing Upper East Tennessee’s Principal’s Group on the TSSAA Board led to the establishment of the first All-Star Football/Basketball game in Tennessee, further cementing his legacy in high school sports within the state.
Rasar passed away on March 25, 1999, but his legacy endures through his contributions to high school sports and administration. His 1994 induction into the TSSAA Hall of Fame stands as a testament to his enduring impact on the athletic and educational landscapes of Tennessee.
