Householder’s remarkable tenure as head football coach at Seymour spanned 34 years, during which he amassed a career record of 280-106. His leadership on the field led Seymour High School to recognize his contributions in a very tangible way: both the stadium and the field house bear his name, a tribute to his significant impact on the school's athletic programs.

Furthermore, Gary Householder’s role extended beyond coaching football. He served as the Athletic Director at Seymour High School for 30 years, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to the development and expansion of the school's athletic department. Under his guidance, Seymour High School launched programs in track, cross country, boys' and girls' soccer, volleyball, and bowling, significantly enhancing the school's athletic offerings and opportunities for student participation.

Householder's service also reached beyond the confines of Seymour High School. He played a critical role in the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA), serving as a District Coordinator since the inception of the program. In addition to his administrative duties, Householder continued to engage directly with student-athletes as the coach of the boys' and girls' golf teams at Seymour High School.
