Roy Dukes

Roy D. Dukes, born on September 13, 1942, embarked on a distinguished career in education and sports administration, culminating in his 2005 induction into the TSSAA Hall of Fame. His journey began in 1965, teaching and coaching at Townsend High School in Winchester, followed by assignments at Jones High School and Connelly Junior High School until 1975. During this ten-year span, Dukes demonstrated his versatility by coaching basketball and football, laying the foundations for a lifelong commitment to supporting student-athletes.

Transitioning into administration, Dukes served as the Assistant Principal of Marshall County High School from 1975 to 1984. He then ascended to the role of Principal, a position he held for nine years, continuing to demonstrate exceptional leadership and commitment to the holistic development of students. His administrative tenure extended to the Marshall County Board of Education from 1993 to 1999 as Director of Accountability, followed by the role of Assistant Director of Schools starting in 1999.

Parallel to his educational career, Dukes distinguished himself as a TSSAA official from 1967 to 1984, officiating in both football and basketball. His dedication to sports and fair play was acknowledged not just locally but also on a larger stage as he worked two TSSAA State Tournaments.

Roy Dukes' service to TSSAA and his broader contributions were recognized through numerous accolades, including the TSSAA Distinguished Service Award. His leadership roles extended beyond sports, serving on several evaluation teams for educational associations and committees, reflecting his dedication to improving educational standards and outcomes. In 2004, his commitment to excellence was honored with the NAACP George Turner Award of Excellence. His tenure as both assistant principal and principal at Marshall County High School was marked by academic and athletic achievements, earning him deep respect and a lasting legacy within the community and beyond.
