  • Played football at the University of Tennessee, playing on the 1951 National Championship team, the 1951-1952 Sugar Bowl team, and the 1952 –1953 Cotton Bowl team
  • Named an All-SEC end on his 1952 – 1953 UT Football squad
  • Served as Captain of the 1953 – 1954 University of Tennessee Volunteer football team
  • One of the fathers of wrestling in the state of Tennessee
  • Served 2 years in the United States army (1954 – 1956)
