Wes Elrod's celebrated career spans 46 years dedicated to teaching and coaching in the Middle Tennessee area, marking a significant contribution to the athletic and academic communities. Born on May 19, 1941, Elrod's passion for sports and education led him to serve in six different schools within the Metro-Nashville school system, showcasing his commitment to developing young athletes across the region. As a head coach for 23 years at Donelson, North, Maplewood, and McGavock high schools, Elrod not only demonstrated his expertise in guiding teams but also his ability to build and sustain successful athletic programs. His tenure in these roles was marked by an impressive overall record of 173 wins, 81 losses, and 2 ties, underlining his effectiveness as a coach and mentor.

Upon retiring from Nashville schools, Elrod did not step away from the game he loved. Further extending his influence, he served as a non-faculty offensive coordinator at Stratford, Wilson Central, and Hunters Lane high schools. Elrod's contributions to sports extended beyond the high school level, as he also coached for four years at Cumberland University in Lebanon, enriching the collegiate sports scene with his seasoned perspectives.

Elrod's legacy includes not only his wins and championships but also his intellectual contributions to the field. He published several books and developed a website that celebrated his "wing-T" coaching system, providing valuable resources for aspiring coaches. Furthermore, his early involvement in wrestling, coaching one of the eight original teams in Nashville and leading five individuals to state championships, speaks to his versatility and pioneering spirit in sports education.

In 2013, the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA) recognized Wes Elrod's substantial contributions to high school athletics by inducting him into its Hall of Fame. This honor celebrates not just his coaching victories but also his service to TSSAA and his enduring impact on student-athletes' lives. Elrod's career exemplifies the profound influence that dedicated educators and coaches can have, leaving an indelible mark on the communities they serve and the sports they champion.
